GST Return Filing in Amravati
With the aim of “One Nation One Tax”, Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in India on 1st July 2017 to unify different indirect taxes. The commencement of GST regime in India brought with itself the concept of GST return- a document in which the taxpayer under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) need to file the details of his/her income to the tax authorities. All the business entities need to get themselves separately registered under GST Regime and file their GST return in an online or offline mode.
As per the 37th GST Council Meeting, new GST return mechanism has taken its presence in GST regime from April 2020 (in acceptance of the proposal from October 2019).

Who Needs to File GST Returns?
GST return filing is mandatory for:
Regular taxpayers
Composition dealers
E-commerce operators (TCS)
TDS deductors
Non-resident taxpayers
Input Service Distributors (ISD)
Even if there are no transactions, filing a Nil GST return is compulsory.
Types of GST Returns
Here are the most common GST returns businesses need to file:
GSTR-1 – Details of outward supplies (sales)
GSTR-2A / 2B – Auto-populated details of inward supplies (purchases)
GSTR-3B – Monthly summary of sales, purchases, and tax liability
GSTR-4 – Annual return for composition dealers
GSTR-5 – Return for non-resident taxpayers
GSTR-6 – Return for Input Service Distributors (ISD)
GSTR-7 – Return for TDS deductors
GSTR-8 – Return for e-commerce operators collecting TCS
GSTR-9 / 9C – Annual return & reconciliation statement (for taxpayers above ₹2 Cr turnover)
GSTR-10 – Final return when GST registration is cancelled
GSTR-11 – Return for UIN holders (claiming GST refunds)
The number and type of GST returns depend on your business category and turnover. A regular taxpayer usually files 2 monthly returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B) and 1 annual return (GSTR-9/9C) — a total of 25 returns in a year.
Due Dates for GST Returns
GSTR-1 → 10th / 11th of next month (or quarterly for turnover up to ₹1.5 Cr)
GSTR-3B → 20th of next month
GSTR-9 / 9C → 31st December following the financial year
Other returns → Dates vary based on taxpayer type
Penalties for Late GST Return Filing
Filing after the due date attracts late fees and interest:
₹100 per day under CGST + ₹100 per day under SGST (max ₹5,000 per return)
Under IGST, ₹200 per day (max ₹10,000 per return)
For annual returns, penalty can be 0.25% of turnover
Continuous non-filing for 6 months may lead to cancellation of GST registration
